Being a K-Pop idol isn’t easy, as they have to deal with a lot of stress in their career. Throughout the years, the members of BTS have talked about the difficulties they face due to their careers. Here are 5 times BTS members spoke on the difficulties of being idols.
1. V speaking on sasaeng fans
Sasaeng fans are one of the worst things K-Pop idols have to deal with, as these are obsessive “fans” who invade the privacy of their favorite idols.
During a live broadcast, V spoke about how the members get extremely uncomfortable due to sasaeng fans and asked that they stop following them.
I’m speaking for all of us. We now fly private jets but we’d actually love to fly with commercial airlines. But whenever we fly, whether short or long distance, there are people who found out where we sit in advance. They would sit in front of us or right next to us, and it made us a little uncomfortable. Well, honestly, I wish they wouldn’t do it. It scares me. Really.
2. J-Hope on the fears that come with being an idol
During an episode of Break The Silence, J-Hope and Jimin were in their car when a staff member told them that they were being followed by some paparazzi.
J-Hope then shared that he often gets frightened due to things like this.
In the interview segment following this scene, J-Hope shared that while there are lots of great things about being an idol, it’s also accompanied by fear.
Of course, being an idol is…It makes you shine brightly, but it’s accompanied by fear.
Sometimes I want to hide or avoid it. At times, I want to let it go.
3. RM & V talking about online hate comments
K-Pop idols often get criticized by netizens for bizarre reasons, and the BTS members have admitted that this can be stressful. During an episode of Burn The Stage, V shared that whenever he makes a mistake, he starts visualizing how he’s going to get cursed at.
I can visualize it, ‘Ah I will get cursed for this.’
Due to this, V tends to extremely careful with his facial expressions.
I either have a blank expression or a smile. I can’t do anything else besides that.
The stress sometimes gets to V, to the point where he doesn’t want to go outside.
I just keep feeling depressed. Somehow, I just wanted to stay in the hotel.
RM also shared that he tends to avoid going on the internet when BTS releases new music, as he’s afraid people will leave malicious comments.
On days we release new music, I’m afraid to go online. I’m worried that people will be cursing at us.
4. RM on the backlash he received for becoming an idol
Idol rappers face a lot of backlash from people, as some believe that they aren’t real rappers. RM was an underground rapper before he debuted as a member of BTS.
However, when he decided to become an idol, he received some backlash. During an episode of Yaman TV, RM shared that a lot of people criticized him for his decision to become an idol, as they didn’t believe that idols were rappers.
5. Jin revealing that he lost a lot of friends due to his idol career
During an episode of Break The Silence, Jin spoke on how he lost a lot of friends due to his idol career.
He shared that a lot of people found it hard to be around him, which caused people to grow apart from him.
There’s a lot of pressure to meet up with people. I haven’t changed, but my friends find it difficult to be around me. It’s quite a shame to see them grow apart from me. I’ve lost a lot of people around me.
