Bong Joon Ho‘s film Parasite is truly a fan favorite!

On December 8, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA) opened the voting for their annual film awards, announcing the winners for each category on Twitter. Fierce competition was prevalent among many famed, notable films, but it was Bong Joon Ho’s critically acclaimed film Parasite that snagged a number of awards!

It won “Best Picture of 2019”:

 

As well as the runner up position for “Best Production Design”:

 

Bong Joon Ho himself won “Best Director”:

 

And Song Kang Ho, one of South Korea’s most prolific actors, won “Best Supporting Actor”. He was the second non-English speaking actor to be nominated, and he won the award!

 

Parasite is a black comedy thriller film that follows the members of a poverty-stricken household attempting to climb the social ladder by posing as unrelated, highly qualified individuals in order to become employees at the house of a much wealthier family.

Parasite has been raking up riveting reviews for a while now, and has won a huge number of other awards as well! At the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, it won the “Palm d’Or” award as the first Korean film to do so; it was selected as “Best Picture” by the New York Film Critics Online as well, and also won “Best Director”, “Best Picture” and “Best Foreign Language Film” at the Toronto Film Critics Association awards as well!

Bong Joon Ho has an enormous legacy as a film maker, with legendary films such as Memories of Murder, The Host, and Mother under his belt. He’s worked extensively with Song Kang Ho for previous films as well, and the two have created cinematic masterpieces together.
