BTS has soared to new heights on the Billboard 200 and set an amazing record!

Billboard has now announced that BTS’s latest album “Love Yourself: Tear” has entered the Billboard 200 chart at No. 1 for the week ending in June 2. This is the first time a K-pop artist has ever topped the Billboard 200 chart. The previous highest ranking for a K-pop act was set when BTS’s “Love Yourself: Her” reached No. 7 last year.

The Billboard 200 ranks the most popular albums of the week in the United States, and it’s based on multi-metric consumption, including traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

According to Nielsen Music, “Love Yourself: Tear” earned 135,000 equivalent album units in the United States in the week ending May 24. 100,000 of that total is from traditional album sales, 26,000 from SEA units (with 39.1 million on-demand audio streams for the album’s tracks), and 9,000 from TEA units.

Billboard also notes that “Love Yourself: Tear” is “the first primarily foreign language No. 1 album in over 12 years” on the chart, since it’s performed mostly in Korean.

The group’s new album has been breaking records both in Korea and around the world, first setting a new record for stock pre-orders in Korea and then recording the highest number of albums sold in the first week on Hanteo, with over 1 million copies sold. Their title track “Fake Love” also earned the group their first ever “perfect all-kill” on the Korean charts, meaning the song topped all major realtime and daily charts simultaneously as well as iChart’s weekly chart.

While “Love Yourself: Tear” and “Fake Love” took the No. 1 spot on iTunes charts around the world, the music video for “Fake Love” became the MV with the 3rd highest 24 hour views in the history of YouTube. “Fake Love” also reached the highest ranking yet for a Korean artist on Spotify’s Global Top 200 chart.

The new rankings on Billboard’s other charts will be out on May 30, including the Hot 100, Billboard’s top songs chart. Many fans are waiting to find out how well BTS’s “Fake Love” has done on the chart! Stay tuned for updates.
