On Quora, someone asked the question, “How do I become a sasaeng?” and a Quora user by the name of Kasami Yamamoto decided to answer this question by talking about her experience as a former sasaeng fan. She stated that being a sasaeng fan just isn’t worth it and that all people should shy away from ever becoming one.

You should not want to be one. As a former sasaeng, I can say that it is not worth it.

Kasami Yamamoto admitted that when she first became a sasaeng fan, it was fun, as she got to see idols up close. However, her mindset eventually changed after some time, and she started feeling more guilty. Not only that, but she also admitted that being a sasaeng fan took over her life.

It’ll seem exciting at first, getting to see your idols privately. But the guilt is real, and being a sasaeng will start to take over life.

While Kasami Yamamoto did understand that people want to get close to their favorite idols, she admitted that being a sasaeng fan is not the right approach. She also talked about how being a sasaeng fan doesn’t guarantee happiness.

I get that we all want to be seen by them, but this is not the right way to. We have to learn that we are fans and nothing more. It’s a hard truth. You’ll be much happier not as a sasaeng.

Also, to be a sasaeng fan, a person needs a lot of things, such as money and connections, which most people don’t have. Kasami Yamamoto concluded by telling people to understand their boundaries as fans, and that a true fan wouldn’t invade an idol’s privacy.

And besides, you need money, connections, and a lot more to truly be a “sasaeng” (all of which I doubt you have). If you were a true fan you wouldn’t overstep your boundaries as a fan. Fun fact: Actual sasaengs don’t call themselves sasaengs.
