Descendants of the Sun was a drama that was popular for the actors playing the roles such as Song Joong Ki, Song Hye Kyo, Jin Goo, and Kim Ji Won. They even aired three special episodes after the drama was over to showcase highlights and the production process. This hit a viewer rating of 38.8% and won the Grand Prize at the 52nd Baeksang Arts Awards.

3. Another Miss Oh

Another Miss Oh was broadcast on tvN and featured Eric Mun and Seo Hyun Jin. This drama was extended by two episodes and two specials and gave fans of the drama a nice treat. This drama also held the highest record rating for a tvN Monday-Tuesday show.

The Doctors is a medical drama featuring Kim Rae Won and Park Shin Hye and hit a viewer rating of 18.40%. Park Shin Hye’s role in the drama gained much attention for her action scenes.

5. Love in the Moonlight

Love in the Moonlight was a hit KBS drama that featured Park Bo Gum and Kim Yoo Jung. This youth romance story that took place in the 19th-century Joseon Dynasty, is based off of a novel called Moonlight Drawn by Clouds. This drama hit a 23.3% viewer rating and won the Best Drama series at the 22nd Asian Television Awards.

Dr. Romantic was a SBS drama that featured Han Suk Kyu, Yoo Yeon Seok and Seo Hyun Jin that hit over 20% in rating and later aired a second season of the drama in early 2020.

7. Guardian: The Lonely and Great God

Guardian: The Lonely and Great God aired at the end of 2016 and featured Gong Yoo, Kim Go Eun, and Lee Dong Wook. This drama was written by popular drama writer Kim Eun Sook and later became the fifth-highest rated Korean drama in cable television history. This drama ended with 18.68% in viewer ratings and became a cultural phenomenon in Korea.
