17 year-old singer-songwriter Junie (준희) has been picked as the winner of Japan’s Niji-Iro Supernova, a program similar to American Idol or Superstar K, but specifically geared towards female vocalists.

She is said to have flown to Japan in June and has competed against a crowd of 1,500 contestants.

Junie is being called the Second Utada due to the contest’s affiliation with EMI Music. Both singers are under the same label, with Junie scheduled to debut next year.
