In the week of the 22nd of July 2020, a sexual offender was caught in the act for taking an upskirt photo of a broadcast jockey (BJ) live streamer who was setting up her station in a PC room.

Unfortunately for him, he was caught red-handed by the 800 viewers on the live stream. The viewers quickly commented on the stream to let the BJ know of the incident, telling her to check the CCTV cameras as soon as possible and not to let him go.

It was reported that she approached the suspect and asked him if he had taken any photograph. He responded that he did not do so, and that since he had passed by, she could have misunderstood the situation. He further explained that he passed by her in search for his friend, protesting the accusations.

Later, upon checking the CCTV which proved the opposite, he had apologized and admitted fault. He was reported to the police, who then announced that his phone had been confiscated for checking if he had repeated this act previously.

What was further criticized was a comment in response to the issue. The commenter claimed to be a friend of the perpetrator.

Below is the full translation of the comment by the perpetrator’s friend.

Excuse me, I’m a friend of the hidden-camera-man you were referring to. Why are you making things bigger by posting about it here and there? To be honest, you are at fault for the clothes you wore as well. Even if he goes around doing crazy sh*t, he’s my friend and if something happens, I’ll be affected too. The neighborhood is small – it’s not like you have confidence not to run into him again, right? Don’t be like this in the future – I will talk to him so let’s settle this quietly.

The BJ in question, Kim Ok Bun, had uploaded a post on the 25th of July, to address the comment. She was upset that people had thought she was making things up, and was further angered at the comment left by the friend.

Deeply affected by the comments that victim blame, she pointed out that when sexual offenders brush their actions off on the basis that the victim was attractive, or was wearing revealing clothes, it not only shifts blame but perpetuates the crime in culture. Kim Ok Bun also pointed out that keyboard warriors who defend these disgusting crimes are no different from the direct offenders themselves.

Netizens had much to say about the issue as well.
