V states that it all began in the summer of 2011 when he decided to go to a Big Hit Entertainment audition. What originally started out as something of curiosity turned into the biggest decision of his life.

They asked me if I would like to try out so I said yes. I danced and they said do you have something else? I sang for them and they asked do you have anything else to show us? I beatboxed and they asked what else? I rapped and they said what else? I brought my saxophone and played it for them to which they responded do you have anything else to show us? It was then that I finally said no I don’t have anything else to show you.

A few weeks later while he was playing in a PC room (gaming room), V got the call from Big Hit Entertainment stating that he passed the auditions and that he was the only person from Daegu to do so. With much excitement, V rushed back home to tell his grandmother.

I remember leaving the PC room (gaming room) even though I still had money left on my computer. I was excited so I went home to tell my grandmother. I told her, I passed! To which she responded “that’s a scam my dear.” Then my dad chimed in talking about how 2AM isn’t in Big Hit but JYP so it can’t be real.

Thankfully, a Big Hit representative reached out and contacted V’s parents to let them know of their legitimacy. It was from there that V told his fans that him and his dad journeyed all the way to Seoul to meet up with the very company that would make him into the world star he is today.
